Join us for a presentation on refashioning clothing by Kimberly Guthrie.
Kimberly is an established and well-respected fashion educator with an extensive teaching career at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Fashion Design + Merchandising in the School of the Arts. Serving in an administrative role since 2011 as an Assistant and Associate Chair and as the Liaison to VCUarts Qatar, she recently served as Interim Chair of the Department of Fashion at VCUarts Qatar. Kimberly’s research focuses on sustainability in the fashion industry and on developing and restructuring courses that prepare the next generation of fashion designers to develop apparel utilizing sustainable design approaches and strategies and has presented her research all over the world. Her teaching areas include draping, patternmaking, construction, tailoring, collection development, product development, computers for fashion, technical design, trend forecasting, fashion show production, and sustainable strategies for fashion design. She is also the founder and study abroad director of the VCU Fashion in Florence summer program which began in 2008.
